Situated east of the Capitol Hill of San Fernando City, La Union along Guerrero Road is the Heroes Hill and Freedom Park Stairway. Overlooking the West Philippine Sea, this Park is a series of concrete 153 steps located at a hillside (Heroes Hill) with concrete statues of some of the freedom fighters placed strategically along the sides of the landings of the steps while the National hero Dr. Jose Rizal is placed at the central part of the steps signifying the people’s reverence to their works and sacrifices in attaining the freedom of our nation. It was constructed during the tenure of Governor Juvenal Guerrero between 1968 and 1975.
It is nice to visit the park when the sun is lying low in the horizon by the early morning or in the late afternoon, sit down and watch the cars and pedestrians passing by at the road below or witness the sunset on the West Philippine Sea along the Poro Point.
